Stonewall Hinkleman and the Bull Run Tour

Wow, what an amazing day we had with folks at the Bull Run Battlefield and then at the Manassas Library.

It’s serious business to walk a battlefield and our Civil War tour guide, Robert Freis, told us about some of the terrible things that happened that day. Then I read the passages from Stonewall Hinkleman that related to the real places and events. Here Mr. Freis leads a group from the Henry House, the scene of a real-life tragedy, which Hinkleman helplessly witnesses in the book.

We did have a few fun moments, though, like giving a t-shirt to this kid who was already perfectly dressed…

Later at the library, Mr. Freis judged the Battle Flag contest…

  1. Great to finally meet you, Sam! Sorry I missed the tour, but I had a GREAT time at the library … you two should take that act on the road (I mean, even more than you already are). Very fun. Will be blogging on it soon.

Also, funny picture of me! I never realized I stick my tongue out like that when I take photos.

  2. BTW, that top photo is awesome … great angle, and the clouds in the background look so ominous!
