Yes! School Library Journal likes Stonewall! That’s a relief, since their review of Qwikpick was not so positive.
“Stonewall is a likable character whose attitude changes for the better in the story.”
Yep, the “hidden” story is really about Stonewall’s attitude adjustment. He starts out thinking the Civil War and everything to do with it is stupid. It’s not that he decides that war is great — in fact it’s much worse than he ever guessed — but he comes to understand why it can’t be forgotten.
We hope young readers will feel the same way!
