R.I.P. Jerry Reed

I’m not sure if there’s a kidlit connection*, but Jerry Reed was a favorite around the Qwikpick.

The spot-on East Bound and Down song from Smokey and the Bandit, as well as his truck-driving, dog-loving ways in that movie, will probably be his lasting legacy — and there’s not a thing wrong with that.

But, beyond his novelty songs, he could also pick and grin like nobody’s business. (Check out his Alabama Jubilee on Youtube … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozWypBp2li4)

*But he did appear on Scooby Doo. Also his song, May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose might be the basis for a great mid-grade novel…
