Qwikpick still kicking after all!

Hot on the heels of those kind posts I mentioned recently, comes this news:

Qwikpick is up for the …

Nevada Library Association

Nevada Young Readers’ Award

Uh oh, look at the competition…

Young Reader

No Talking by Andrew Clements

Night of the Howling Dogs by Graham Salisbury

Danger in the Dark by Tom Laliki

Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney

Moxy Maxwell Does Not Love Stuart Little by Peggy Gifford

The Quickpick Adventure Society by Sam Riddleburger

That Wimpy Kid will be hard to beat!

But win or lose, it sounds like lots of Nevada kids will be reading the book this year! “Heck yes!” as Freddy would say!

Here’s a little more info I just got:

First Nevada kids need to nominate the books they are reading!  November 1 of each year is the deadline for books that will be voted on 18 months later. The copyright date of the nominated books needs to be within the last three years.  The students fill out a nomination form and give it to a librarian.

We have four levels of books for NYRA.  The students in Nevada typically nominate around 60 books in each category each year.  That list is then read by volunteers: students, teachers, librarians, & parents, from all over Nevada.  The groups then meet by teleconference in March to narrow the nominations – we decide which books will be the finalists that the kids vote from; eight finalists for the Picture Book category and six finalists for Young Reader, Intermediate, & Young Adult categories.

After the finalists are announced in March, students have until May 15 of the following year to read half of the books on a list and vote for their favorites.  Both voting forms and contact information can be found on the NYRA website listed above.  This year we had over 45,000 votes from all over Nevada!

  1. Yea! Congrats! Hope you win. But, you know, it’s an honor just to be nominated….

  2. Congratulations! That’s great!

  3. Thanks, guys!

I’m wondering what the Nevada kids are going to make of fried baloney biscuits and Molly Hatchett and pork rinds, etc… I hope they like it…
