The Three Robbers by Tomi Ungerer

I’ve long been a fan of Crictor:

But I’d never seen The Three Robbers until a chance run-in at a little library.

This artwork is amazing! And the story is wonderful. Not a drop of saccharine and yet it’s so sweetly amorally good-natured. Here’s a great example of the value of keeping a dingy, beat-up old book on the library shelves. Inside the artwork is still fresh and alive.

Apparently, it’s been made into a French animated movie:

I read about it here, but the Website for the movie didn’t come up for me.
